In a shocking development it looks as if Ed Towns is actually going to do something during his next term in Washington DC. I’m still not sure I believe it but there are rumors he will be taking over leadership of the House Oversight Committee. This is the position Henry Waxman is giving up to take over the Energy Committee. Is Ed Towns actually going to take a leadership role after being almost invisible for most of his 25 year tenure in Congress. I’ll believe it when I see it but best of luck and please make us proud if you’re finally stepping up to the national stage!
Nothing too crazy to report here. Other than what seemed to be a couple of random knife slashing attacks it was a pretty tame week. The standard iPod muggings continue unabated…
Now that they are finally nearing completion of the construction at the Atlantic Terminal LIRR station Hanson Place now allows for two way traffic. I think it should help traffic congestion. Here’s the story from The Brooklyn Paper.
Here’s an article discussing this weekend’s 100th anniversary of the Prison Ship Martyr’s Monument in Fort Greene Park. The Parks Department had to scramble to complete the necessary renovations but it looks as if they will actually be done by November 15. See this old post for more information on the monument.
Here’s an article discussing problems with the B38. While the standard B38 definitely has issues with crowding and “bus bunching” the new B38 Limited only makes three stops in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill (Classon, Vanderbilt & Flatbush). The B38 continues to be packed while the B38 Limited is rarely full. The MTA needs to rethink how it allocates buses between the two routes.
Nothing too earth shattering in this week’s Police Blotter from The Brooklyn Paper. A few break-ins, assaults (as always for iPods and cell phones).

Tonight there will be an interesting event at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church. It looks to be part of CNN’s “Black In America” series. Kevin Powell will also be in the house to promote his new book. The event will take place tonight at 7:00 p.m.
Yet another post on crime. This is an interesting article discussing the crimes and the alleged perpetrator Luis Concepcion.
