Catsimatidis backlash begins…

21 07 2008

On Thursday, local residents and politicians rallied in protest of the real estate development activities of possible mayoral candidate, John Catsimatidis. His company, Red Apple Group, tore down several businesses “frequented by residents of nearby the public housing complexes, the Ingersoll and Whitman houses, only to see his construction project delayed.”

The empty lot that now stands has stranded many local residents without easily accessible grocery stores, drug or stores or retail. The developer blames the economy but it seems as if this project has been in the works for at least 10 years. You’re telling me he’s just now going to the bank? While the terms may change due to the current environment, I would think financing is the first thing you secure prior to groundbreaking. There’s money to build the project, just not the low-income component… Regardless why deprive the local residents of services for YEARS if you aren’t even sure if the project can be completed?

I love the fact this is a Brooklyn Tech kid who has done incredibly well for himself but this guy is definitely not getting off to good start in my book.
